Alexander Pushkin:

«Winter Morning» – «

Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799 – 1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era. He is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature.

Cold frost and sunshine: day of wonder!

But you, my friend, are still in slumber.

Wake up, my beauty, time belies:

Your dormant eyes, I beg you, open

To meet the northerly Aurora,

As though a northern star arise!

Recall last night, the snow was whirling,

Across the sky, the haze was twirling,

The moon, as though a pale dye,

Emerged with yellow through faint clouds.

You sadly sat, immersed in doubts.

Today – just take a look outside:

Below the slightly bluish skies,

Snow like a majestic carpet lies,

And in the light of day it shimmers.

Transparent woods turn dark and dusky.

And firs turn green, to frost exposed

Under the ice, the river glimmers.

The room is lit with amber light.

And bursting, popping in delight,

Hot stove still rattles in a fray.

While it is nice to hear its clatter,

Perhaps, we should command to saddle

A fervent mare into the sleigh?

And sliding on the morning snow,

Dear friend, we’ll let our worries go,

And with the zealous mare we’ll flee.

We’ll visit empty ranges, thence,

The woods, which used to be so dense

And then the shore, so dear to me.

Блестя на солнце, снег лежит;

Dear Olivia, thank you so much. Just before the pandemic, I had started studying languages, Russian, Italian, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, German, and English simultaneously. But this thing changed everything and made me stop studying. I have my notes and the intention of learning the alphabet again.
Yes, it sounds very good. Have a happy Sunday!
    Cheers!

  7. Dear Elvira, the Cyrillic alphabet was a huge obstacle for me. I started several times, before mastering it. Now, finally, I am getting along with Russian and am making progress. I already passed two state exams at the Moscow University and am preparing for the third exam. Please wish me luck.

  11. There is a lot of hate speech on the internet, for example on facebook and instagram. I do not like that at all. I think it is better to stay on the blogs of kind people. The atmosphere on wordpress is good. I never see any nasty comments. Maybe that is because I take a choice. I limit the access strictly – only friendly people allowed for communication here.

For me, Pushkin’s the poems is a must read because his work represents the set of aspirations and sensibilities of the new society that was appearing in Russia in the first half of the 19th century. His poetry, and his prose, exerted an enormous influence on several generations of later Russian writers. The photos are stupendous and the landscapes in the video are evidence of a splendid winter in Russia. Excellent your post Olivia. I have really enjoyed it. A good week for you
